Murcia weather forecast, morning of Friday May 1
For this long weekend in Spain, the weather forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) for the Region of Murcia is for rain showers every day, although temperatures will be mild.
Friday May 1 is a national festivo in honour of International Workers’ Day, and everyone has the day off work and school, making it a three-day weekend. In addition, many schools are taking the Monday off, too, so that children get four days of school, though for most of that time the rain will keep them firmly indoors.
And it’s especially a shame because there are so many major events taking place around the Region this weekend, many of them based outdoors, from the Caballos del Vino (Running of the Wine Horses) in Caravaca, the Cruces de Mayo in Cartagena, the Los Mayos festival in Alhama de Murcia and the local fiestas in Abanilla.
Thursday April 30
Murcia weather warning, Thursday April 30In fact, for Thursday April 30 Aemet has issued a yellow-level weather warning for the far northwestern corner of the Region, including places like Caravaca de la Cruz and Bullas, for the risk of thunderstorms and precipitation that leaves 15mm of accumulated rainfall per hour between 4pm and 10pm.
For most of the rest of the Region, Thursday will actually be fairly dry and sunny, though with cloudy patches.
Friday May 1
Murcia weather forecast, afternoon of Friday May 1Once the weekend begins, though, we will have far wetter conditions to deal with. Starting from the early hours of the morning, we can expect “cloudy skies with showers, heaviest in the north of the region, where they will occasionally be accompanied by thunderstorms,” according to Aemet, though as yet they have not issued any weather warnings for Friday.
Minimum temperatures at night will stay fairly stable over the next few days at around 11-12ºC for the far northern parts of the Region; 13-15ºC in the central strip; and 16-17ºC along the coast. Maximums during the day will sit around 22-25ºC everywhere all weekend long.
Saturday May 2
Murcia weather forecast, Saturday May 2While Aemet forecasts Saturday to be less stormy, there will still be significant rainfall throughout most of the day, “occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms inland” and “light, variable winds, tending to blow from the east,” though it will be a dry night.
Sunday May 3
Murcia weather forecast, Sunday May 3Those dry conditions last overnight, only to be broken again on Sunday morning from around 6am and only gradually petering out towards the afternoon, when the sun might just poke through for a couple of hours before dusk.
Going into next week, more intermittent rain is expected, though temperatures should rise back up into the mid- to high-20s.
