ARCHIVED - Slowdown in new covid cases across Spain on Friday, but deaths increase again
The Health Ministry reports a drop in new cases of Covid-19, with 15,156, but deaths resume an upward trajectory with 328
This Friday, 20th November, the 17 autonomous communities of Spain have notified the national Ministry of Health of 15,156 new cases of Covid-19.
This represents a large decrease compared to 21,371 on Friday last week and follows a week in which the number of new cases has gradually reduced, as the country heads towards a level of stability.
The total number of Covid-19 infections in Spain has now reached 1,556,730 since the beginning of the pandemic, according to these official statistics published by the Ministry of Health.
This gradual fall in the number of new cases being reported has reduced the accumulated incidence rate over the last 14 days, calculated based on the number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which today stands at 419, compared to 436 yesterday and 498 last Friday. Only one autonomous community, Castilla y León, has more than 700 cases and Aragón, Asturias, Ceuta, the Basque Country and La Rioja are all above 600, a significant fall compared to the figures of a week ago. The gradual decrease does permit some optimism, but the objectives of the Ministry of Health, reducing the accumulated incidence over 14 days to 60 cases, is still a distant target
Fatalities: 328 deaths were added to this Friday's report, compared to 252 yesterday and 308 last Friday. The highest figure of the second wave was reported on Tuesday with 435 cases.
In the last week, 1,341 people with a confirmed positive diagnosis of COVID-19 have died in Spain and the total since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 42,619.
The 1,341 deaths that have been registered during the last week in Spain with confirmed positive for coronavirus are distributed as follows: 231 in Andalusia, 170 in Aragon, 138 in Asturias, seven in the Balearic Islands, ten in the Canary Islands, 11 in Cantabria, 66 in Castilla- La Mancha, 178 in Castilla y León, 32 in Catalunya, two in Ceuta, 126 in the Valencia Region, 36 in Extremadura, 73 in Galicia, 105 in Madrid, four in Melilla, 53 in Murcia, 35 in Navarra, 45 in the Basque Country and 19 in La Rioja.
Hospitalisations:
Currently, there are 17,963 patients admitted for COVID-19 throughout Spain (18,961 yesterday) and 3,054 in the ICU (3,125 yesterday). In the last 24 hours, there have been 1,643 admissions to general wards (1,727 yesterday) and 2,099 discharges (2,246 yesterday). The overall occupancy rate of beds occupied by coronavirus patients is 14.52 percent (15.18% yesterday) and in ICUs 31.02 percent (31.66% yesterday).
In the last week, up to 4,193 people have required hospitalization due to being infected with the COVID-19 virus: 797 in Andalusia, 277 in Aragón, 506 in Asturias, 54 in the Balearic Islands, 56 in Canary Islands, 53 in Cantabria, 116 in Castilla-La Mancha, 531 in Castilla y León, 215 in Catalonia, 16 in Ceuta, 434 in Valencian Community, 112 in Extremadura, 287 in Galicia, 236 in Madrid, nine in Melilla, 251 in Murcia, 121 in Navarra, 54 in the Basque Country and 68 in La Rioja.
