The Parque de la Cubana is a central green area in the heart of Alhama de Murcia located opposite the Town Hall (ayuntamiento) and Tourist Information Office.
This site was formerly home to the shoe factory owner Lorenzo Rubio Andreo, one of the wealthiest men in the town of Alhama at the start of the 20th century. However, it was acquired by the Town Hall in the 1960s and transformed into a public park, and nowadays is home to a wide variety of plants and trees as well as an impressive aviary, walkways and childrens play areas.
The park contains the Auditorio Municipal, an open air auditorium used in the summer for concerts and cultural events, and at the back is a large open area which hosts funfairs and becomes the Recinto Ferial during the annual fiestas and other celebrations. It is also an extremely useful space to know about for parking in town when attending other events, as it can be accessed from the back roads without the necessity to drive into the main arterial road of the town (although on Tuesday mornings it tends to be full as the weekly market is held on Avenida Juan Carlos I).
The Parque de la Cubana is also conveniently located for the Town Hall, the tourist office and the Plaza de la Constitución.
