Muddy rain returns to Murcia as Easter begins: Weekend weather forecast April 10-14
Storm Olivier will bring muddy showers and a drop in stability after a warm, sunny start to April

The recent spell of warm and stable weather in the Region of Murcia could be about to end, with rain forecast to return just as Easter Week begins, combined with significant levels of ‘calima’ Saharan dust suspended in the air to create muddy rain.
After a sunny start to April, where temperatures exceeded 25°C in parts of the region and clear skies prevailed, the arrival of Storm Olivier looks set to disrupt the early days of the holiday period.
Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned that Storm Olivier is set to reach mainland Spain this Friday 11, which will be quite cloudy in Murcia, though the majority of the rainfall will not begin in earnest until Saturday April 12.
Adding to the discomfort, much of this rainfall could be accompanied by suspended Saharan dust, known as ‘calima’. This phenomenon often results in muddy rain, which not only affects air quality but also leaves a telltale brown residue on buildings, vehicles and streets. Aemet forecasts mention persistent dust in the atmosphere from Thursday onwards, likely to mix with rain and create this messy outcome.
Thursday will see very cloudy skies with lingering dust in the air. While minimum temperatures will remain stable or slightly rise, maximums will begin to fall. Winds will come from the east, light to moderate inland and stronger on the coast.

By Friday, skies are expected to be overcast, with a risk of muddy showers towards the end of the day. Dust in suspension will continue, and temperatures will experience only slight changes, although some localised increases in the minimums are possible.

Saturday April 12 brings a higher likelihood of muddy rain and overcast skies across the region. Temperatures will remain stable or rise slightly, with moderate coastal winds continuing from the east.

Sunday April 13 is forecast to be very cloudy, with a significant chance of showers and even some thunderstorms. Winds will shift to the south but remain light. Temperatures are expected to remain steady.

How long will the rain last?
Despite the arrival of rain, temperatures will stay relatively mild. Daytime highs will generally stay above 20°C and may even approach 30°C in Murcia and the surrounding Vega del Segura area. Night-time lows will range between 10°C in inland areas and up to 15°C in coastal zones.
The wet weather may persist into Monday April 14, casting doubt over the early part of Easter Week. Aemet has indicated that there may be a shift towards drier conditions from Tuesday onwards, especially in southern Spain, but this remains uncertain for now.

For those hoping for clear skies and dry pavements for Easter celebrations, the outlook remains changeable. Umbrellas may need to be kept close at hand for the start of the week!
