ARCHIVED - Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucia leaves Cala de Mijas on May 18 concluding in Pulpi on May 22
The sporting event in Andalucia will be watched by millions around the world.
The Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucía cycling race is set to pass through the Sierra de Cadiz in its first stage of the competition on May 18 after the pandemic forced its postponement from February.
The competition will complete its first stage on May 18, setting out from La Cala de Mijas in Malaga at 11.30 am from the Recinto ferial, before passing through Setenil de las Bodegas, Torre Alhaquime, Olvera, Algodonales and then Zahara de la Sierra in Cadiz in a total stretch of 152 kilometres.
The race will continue on its second day on May 19 passing through Cordoba and ending in Alcala la Real in Jaen, while on May 20 the competition will take place in Jaen, ending in Villarrodrigo.
The contest will pass through Granada on May 21, ending in Cullar Vega, while the final day of the race on May 22 will take place in Almeria where cyclists will depart from Vera and finish in Pulpi.
The competition is a draw for tourists and locals alike, bringing significant publicity to the region of Andalucia and last year was broadcast in 180 countries, reaching an audience of 130 million. It is also thought to have created around 300 jobs, as well as bringing in 7,200 overnight stays in the region.
The stages will this year be broadcast on Canal Sur between 2.30pm and 3.30pm from May 19 and May 22.
Full information about the various stages can be found on the web of the organisers vuelta andalucia.es
