ARCHIVED - Vaccinations begin for hospital workers across the Murcia Region
On Monday the vaccinations programme will begin in the health centres of the region
The health personnel of the hospitals of the Region began to receive the first dose their coronavirus vaccines on Thursday and Friday, and as of next Monday, the campaign will begin for those working in the health centers and SUAP (equivalent to emergency departments in the larger health centres) of the Region.
The mass vaccination of health personnel begins in earnest on Monday, January 11th, and the regional health authority expects to have vaccinated all 28,000 workers in the health service by the middle of the month of February.
In parallel, work is being undertaken to start vaccinating the population, the first group being those over 85 years of age who will be contacted and advised which health centre will be carrying out their vaccination and given an appointment.
The regional government is expecting to receive its first allocation of 2,700 doses of the vaccine developed by Moderna to help it meet the immediate demand.
The regional government forecasts that vaccinations of the first block of high priority health service workers, care home residents and workers as well as those considered to be at highest risk will be completed by mid-February and work can begin to vaccinate the next group which includes residents over 80 living at home.
The blocks of vaccines are allocated in descending age order, with those considered to be at highest risk higher up in the lists. In all cases, appointments will be allocated in the same way as for the flu vaccinations campaign.
The regional government currently has 350 health workers from the Murcian Health Service (SMS) trained to administer vaccinations, with two nurses from each of the health centers focusing on vaccinations.
As is the situation elsewhere, the roll-out depends on the availability of the vaccines and it is hoped that the inclusion of the Moderna vaccine will help to speed-up the roll-out due to lack of supply of the Pfizer vaccine.
