ARCHIVED - Two children and four adults injured in head-on horror crash in Alicante
The collision, involving two cars, happened on the Elche-La Marina road in the Baix Vinalopo, Alicante province
Six people, including two nine-year-old girls, have been seriously injured in a full-frontal crash on the CV-853 in Elche.
It's not clear what caused the smash, but two vehicles collided head-on at around 6.40pm on Wednesday October 13, and a medical helicopter, five ambulances, firefighters and police were on the scene within 20 minutes, according to the Guardia Civil.
A couple were travelling in one car, and a husband and wife with their two children in the other.
Medics managed to reverse a cardiac arrest in one of the nine-year-old girls using an automated external defibrillator and she was taken to Alicante General Hospital with multiple injuries, together with the second child who sustained abdominal injuries.
A fifty-year-old man suffered fractures to both legs, whilst a 46-year-old woman was airlifted to the city hospital with several fractures to her leg and elbow.
As firefighters continued to pull the passengers from the mangled wreckage, a woman, 42, was stablised and taken to Vinalopó hospital in Elche with a possible fractured pelvis, together with a 41-year-old woman who suffered a suspected fractured collarbone.
The Elche-La Marina road was partially closed as a result of the accident, one of the most serious in the municipality in recent months in terms of the number of people injured.
In June, a woman died and three people were injured in a head-on collision on the N-332 near Santa Pola in the Baix Vinalopo comarca of Alicante province.
