ARCHIVED - Travellers to the UK from Spain now require predeparture Covid test
From December 7, passengers travelling from Spain will have to take a pre-departure test
To tackle the spread of the Omicron Covid variant, the British government has announced that from 4am on Tuesday December 7, all passengers returning to the UK from Spain, or any other country on the ‘ROW’ (rest of world) list will be required to present a pre-departure PCR or lateral flow test. The coronavirus tests must be taken a maximum of 48 hours prior to arrival in the UK.
The news comes just a week after Boris Johnson announced that passengers arriving in the UK from Spain would have to pre-book a Day 2 PCR test before their return and self-isolate until the results have been returned negative.
According to the British government, “As of 4am on 30 November 2021 lateral flow tests will no longer be accepted”.
These regulations apply to anyone over the age of 12 who has been fully vaccinated. Unvaccinated passengers travelling to the UK must also present a negative PCR test before boarding the plane, but will then also have to quarantine for 10 days and take a day two and day eight test.
From December 1, all travellers arriving in Spain from the UK will have to be fully vaccinated. A negative test will no longer be sufficient for entry. This has caused considerable hassle for parents of teenagers, as anyone over the age of 12 needs to be double jabbed to enter Spain, and most youngsters in the UK have only received one vaccination so far.
📢 From 01.12 UK´s residents travelling to 🇪🇸 for non-essential reasons, need to be fully vaccinated 💉✅

This regulation doesn’t apply to people who have a passport issued in the EU or Spanish residency.
A Covid passport issued by the NHS is valid for entry to Spain, but the UK Foreign Office has warned that, “If you are travelling with a printed PDF proof of vaccination status, it must date from 1 November to ensure that the certificate can be scanned successfully”.
