ARCHIVED - Totana Town Hall denounces motocross event at circuit where British rider died last year
The threat of closure hangs over the Los Balcones circuit near Cañadas de Romero
The Town Hall of Totana has announced that legal action is to be taken against the organizers of the regional moto-cross championship which took place at the Los Balcones circuit in Cañadas de Romero on Sunday due to the official Town Hall logo having been used on posters advertising the event.
The venue for the competition was the Solmoto Mx circuit between El Paretón-Cantareros and Cañadas de Romero, and following the tragic death of a young British rider there in December safety at the circuit is currently under investigation and a threat of closure hangs over the venue. In this context the Town Hall expressed its “regret” that the regional motorcycling federation had seen fit to organize the championship there.
The Town Hall itself is investigating two offences allegedly carried out at Los Balcones, one involving the removal of tape which the local police force had used to cordon the circuit off in March 2016 and the other for carrying out unauthorized earth-moving activities. Last December it was decided to temporarily suspend all activities at the circuit on the grounds that the race area had been opened without the appropriate municipal licence having been obtained.
