ARCHIVED - Sunday 15th December theatrical guided tour of the El Pasico windmill in Torre Pacheco
On December 15th Torre Pacheco celebrates its tradition of agricultural production, symbolised by the windmills which are dotted around in the countryside of the Torre Pacheco municipality.
Mills were a vital component of an agricultural culture, being used for two main functions, one to draw water up from the ground and pump it through the irrigation system and also to grind wheat, producing flour.
There are many mills around the Region of Murcia, some of which have been fully restored and returned to working order, and can still be visited. Amongst these is the large Molinos del Rio Segura museum in Murcia, which is dedicated to large-scale milling of grain, and concluded its working life milling dried peppers, working watermills and the Torre Pacheco windmills, several of which have been restored.
On Sunday 15th December a theatrical guided tour with commentary in Spanish is on offer, lasting from 10:00 to 12:00, and priced at 3 euros, visiting the hermitage dedicated to the Virgen de El Pasico and the windmill.
