ARCHIVED - Stylish new B&B for the Puerto de Mazarrón
Small is beautiful in this modern and stylish new accommodation for the Mazarrón municipality
The Puerto de Mazarrón has a new accommodation alternative, the opening of the Hostal Sosiego Mar increasing its tourism capacity by a further 14 places.
Although the eight rooms seem a modest contribution to the 6,000 odd beds already available in the municipality, this new enterprise targets a specific market; independent travellers looking for stylish and modern accommodation in an attractive and comfortable environment that doesn´t break the bank.
Weekday rates start at 40 euros a room including breakfast and the format is one which will appeal to those familiar with log-in, log-out type accommodation, a modern entry panel giving access without the need for permanent staff to man the entry, reducing the cost for travellers.
Rooms are stylishly furnished with attention to detail, and guests are offered a kitchen/lounge facility as well as a sun terrace with sun-beds, awning, seating and fabulous views over the Bahía de Mazarrón to one side and the Cabeza del Faro on the other.
It may be small compared to other establishments, but is characterful, has plenty of parking nearby, and is located right in the heart of the Puerto de Mazarrón close to the lighthouse, an attractive modern format which will certainly appeal to international travellers who want to leave their vehicles and be able to walk to bars, restaurants and the fishing port.
The project to open this hotel has been co-financed by the local fishing and aquiculture action group Galpemur and the European Maritime Fund to the tune of 75,000 euros, and as well as a welcome addition to the tourist accommodation available in Puerto de Mazarrón it will also be used to host events related to fishing, such as the Asociación Columbares campaign to encourage the consumption of fish which are plentiful in the sea rather than those species whose populations are under threat. Courses, talks and workshops will also be hosted by the establishment.
In the first ten months of 2019 hotels in the municipality of Mazarrón have welcomed 38,013 guests, an increase of 14.3 per cent over the figure for the same period in 2018, while the number of nights stayed has risen by 43.7 per cent to 114,064.
With the opening of the Sosiego Mar there are now 19 hotels in Mazarrón with a total of 1,004 beds, while the 523 tourist accommodation establishments in the municipality offer 6,124 beds. These figures account for 9 and 10 per cent respectively of the totals for the whole of the Region of Murcia.
