ARCHIVED - Spectators return to sporting events in the Region of Murcia
Limited crowds return to all competitions except top national football and basketball leagues
The month of February is drawing to an end with a welcome significant decrease in coronavirus incidence rates in practically all of the 45 municipalities of the Region of Murcia, and in this context it has been decided by the regional authorities that spectators are to be allowed to return to sporting events as of this Friday, 26th February.
This will not affect competitions such as the national football and basketball leagues, so the UCAM Murcia basketball team and the footballers of FC Cartagena will continue to play in empty arenas at least for the time being. However, the El Pozo Murcia and Jimbee Cartagena five-a-side football teams will be allowed to admit spectators this weekend, and with Jimbee currently second in the league and hosting third-placed Palma Futsal on Saturday there is likely to be considerable interest.
Supporters of football teams in the Second Division B will also be allowed to watch their teams in action again for the first time since early January as of the first weekend in March, including UCAM, Real Murcia, Yeclano and Lorca Deportiva.
The number of spectators allowed will depend on the pandemic situation in each municipality. At outdoor stadia in areas where infection rates are low the stands can be filled up to 75 per cent of capacity, although always with at least one seat free between individuals, with the percentage dropping to 50 per cent in municipalities with medium to high risk of transmission and to 33 per cent in those where the risk is high.
In indoor venues the same limits apply, except in areas where the risk of contagion is deemed to be “very high”: in these cases events will take place behind closed doors.
