ARCHIVED - Scrapyard fire destroys more than 50 cars in Molina de Segura
112 received about twenty calls from motorists on the A-30 motorway reporting thick black smoke billowing out from the scrapyard in Molina de Segura.
A fire broke out in a scrapyard in Molina de Segura on Monday, July 12, destroying more than 50 cars and causing extensive damage.
The 112 Emergency Coordination Centre received about twenty calls from 4.30 pm as thick black smoke could be seen billowing out from the facility located next to the A-30 motorway, at kilometre 122.
The smoke could be seen from Murcia, according to the local police of the municipality.
112 despatched firefighters from the CEIS of the Region of Murcia and a helicopter of the Directorate General of Public Safety and Emergencies (DGSCE) to the scene to begin battling the blaze, while members of the Guardia Civil, officers of the Local Police of Molina and an 061 ambulance were also despatched to assist.

The helicopter could be seen dumping gallons of water on the raging fire as 12 firefighters worked to get the blaze under control.
A 46-year-old man was treated at the scene after suffering an injury to his leg, however, he did not require hospital attention.
It is not yet known what caused the fire.
