Salmonella warning for DIA chicken burgers across Spain

The popular burgers have been recalled in Andalucía, Alicante and several other regions

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued a health alert following the detection of salmonella in a batch of chicken burgers sold by popular supermarket chain DIA.

The affected product, ‘DIA Selection Chicken Burger’, comes in plastic trays containing six 90-gram burgers (total weight: 540 grams), with batch number 250969 and an expiry date of April 19, 2025. The product requires refrigeration.

Initial distribution of the burgers involved supermarkets in Andalucía, Asturias, Aragon, the Valencian Community, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Galicia and Madrid, although AESAN has warned that the contaminated batch may have been redistributed to other autonomous communities as well.

The alert was shared with regional authorities through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI) to ensure that the affected products are promptly withdrawn from the market.

Shoppers who may have purchased this product are advised not to consume it. If the burgers have already been eaten and symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, fever or headache occur—typical signs of salmonellosis—medical attention should be sought immediately.

In a statement, DIA confirmed that the safety of its customers is its “top priority.” The company added that “as a preventive measure, and following the usual protocol established by the Administration, the batch of the indicated product is being withdrawn” from store shelves.

This is the second salmonella-related recall in recent weeks. At the end of March, AESAN also issued an urgent alert regarding six varieties of pork rind snacks found to be contaminated, which were sold in supermarkets across 11 regions, including Murcia and Andalucía.
