The Guardia Civil is investigating the robberies at two petrol stations in the Mazarrón municipality that occurred on consecutive days this week. The first took place around 10pm on Monday January 23 at the Repsol garage on Avenida del Alamillo service station in the Port of Mazarrón. According to the regional newspaper La Verdad, the two assailants entered the establishment and after threatening the clerk proceeded to steal the money from the cash register and the clerk’s car keys, then fled in the staff member’s car, a blue Peugeot 107.
The second robbery occurred on Tuesday night January 24 at the BP Garrobo garage using the same modus operandi. The thieves, who arrived in a vehicle stolen in another assault in Lorca, forced the front door and threatened the employee, who was forced to hand over cash from the register. In addition, in the minutes they were at the service station, they had time to drag out the cigarette machine and load it into the staff member's own car before driving off in it. The vehicle which was recovered on Wednesday in the municipality of Cartagena.
After both robberies, several units of the Guardia Civil attended the scenes, with officers carrying out a visual inspection, in addition to viewing the images of the security cameras installed at the petrol stations and collecting evidence to help discover the identification of the suspects.
The crimes follow a recent spate of robberies in Cartagena and a bank raid on the Camposol urbanisation.
