ARCHIVED - Recovery truck driver six times over the legal alcohol limit in Torre Pacheco
The driver was stopped on the RM-F-14 between Torre Pacheco and Los Alcázares
The Guardia Civíl of the Region of Murcia has detained the driver of a 7.5-ton vehicle transporter for crimes against road safety, after he was detected driving his vehicle whilst six times over the maximum alcohol rate, which in the case of professional drivers it is 0.15 mg / l.
The incident occurred when the Traffic Operational Central (COTA) of the Murcia Civil Guard Traffic Sector received a call reporting a traffic accident on the RM-F-14 highway, which connects Torre Pacheco with Los Alcázares.
Two passenger cars were involved in the head-on collision, resulting in three injuries, one of them serious, and major material damage, with the vehicles in the middle of the road, interrupting the traffic.
Two motorcycle patrols and a team from the Cartagena Traffic Detachment immediately went to the scene of the accident, to verify the circumstances, provide the necessary aid, restore the circulation of traffic and carry out the appropriate actions and investigations, providing immediate assistance to those injured and to regulate the traffic held up as a result of the road accident.
Whilst moving on the traffic, officers became aware of the suspicious behaviour of the driver of a tow truck who appeared to not be in full control of his faculties and when he was pulled over and tested, was found to be six times over the legal limit.
The driver - male, Spanish, 53 years old and a resident of Murcia – will be charged under article 379 of the Penal Code and can be punished with either a prison term of 3 to 6 months, a fine, community service of between 31 to 90 days and loss of his license for between 1 and 4 years.
