Spanish Policia Nacional in Vélez-Málaga have intercepted a truck carrying 1,579 kilograms of hashish cleverly disguised as oranges, resulting in the arrest and imprisonment of the driver and co-pilot.

 

The operation took place on the Mediterranean highway, where officers had been closely monitoring suspicious activity.

 

Police observed two individuals travelling behind the truck in a separate vehicle acting nervously and alert, believed to be performing counter-surveillance work. When the police attempted to stop both vehicles, the car carrying the two occupants made an evasive manoeuvre and managed to escape, but the truck was intercepted at a highway exit.

 

Upon searching the truck, officers discovered the large quantity of hashish concealed in spherical packages wrapped in orange plastic, mimicking the appearance of fruit. This innovative method of concealment was part of what made the smuggling attempt so difficult to detect.

 

The driver and his co-pilot were arrested on the spot and later ordered to remain in custody by Málaga’s Investigative Court No. 10, facing charges related to drug trafficking.

 

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to locate and identify the occupants of the fleeing vehicle and determine their possible connection to the operation.
