ARCHIVED - New technology makes tourist information more accessible for visitors to Alhama and Condado
Digital information points have been installed at Alhama tourist office, Archeological Museum and at the Al-Kasar shopping centre
The Department of Tourism in Alhama de Murcia is developing a project based around the inclusion of the municipality as a ‘Smart Tourist Destination’, a label which involves promoting future-focused strategies of good governance, sustainability, accessibility, innovation and technology in terms of tourism.
As part of this new model, in 2022 the Department of Tourism carried out a series of actions to improve the accessibility of its Tourist Information Office and install interactive devices to allow access to tourist information 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
This was possible thanks to a grant of 31,742.66 euros from the Ministry of the Presidency, Tourism, Culture and Sports, through the Directorate General for Competitiveness and Tourism Quality, to enable the digitisation, modernisation, improvement and enhancement of infrastructure in its Tourism offices.
As well as the Tourist Information Office, these new electronic devices have been installed in the Los Baños Archaeological Museum and in the Al-Kasar shopping centre in Condado de Alhama. All of them offer information in Spanish and English about the tourist attractions of the municipality, accommodation, events and other information of interest to visitors, which is available outside of office hours at any time.
Other actions carried out to improve accessibility have consisted of replacing the manual opening door with an automated one to facilitate access for users with reduced mobility, as well as the installation of a magnetic loop to improve the quality of life for people with hearing disabilities through their hearing aids.
The grant from the Directorate General for Competitiveness and Quality in Tourism has also enabled other actions to be undertaken to improve the Tourist Information Office in Alhama, such as the replacement of the air conditioning equipment with new, more energy efficient equipment, the repainting of the customer service area, the replacement of blinds and the purchase of the computer and telecommunications equipment necessary for the digitalisation of the services provided by the tourist information point in Condado de Alhama.

These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.
The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.
