ARCHIVED - Murcia passes 6,000 active Covid cases mark with 2 deaths; Sunday 13th
For the fourth consecutive day the Region of Murcia reported new covid cases in excess of 400, the latest figure on Sunday being 431 new cases in the last 24 hours.
This takes the current total of active cases past the 6,000 mark to 6,062 active cases diagnosed by PCR, and the total cases diagnosed in the Region to date up to 13,358.
Of these, 11,652 have been diagnosed by PCR and 1706 using rapid antibody testing.
Of the 431 new cases, 126 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 58 to Lorca, 31 to Jumilla, 18 to Torre Pacheco, 17 to Cartagena, 17 to Molina de Segura, 16 to Alcantarilla, 16 to Totana, 13 to Alhama de Murcia, 12 to Mula, 12 to Yecla, 11 to Cieza, 11 to San Javier, 9 to Archena, 8 to Mazarrón, 8 to La Unión, 7 to Lorquí, 5 to Cehegín, 5 to Ceutí, and 5 to Villanueva del Río Segura. The rest are distributed among various municipalities in smaller numbers. On Monday the data by municipality will be updated by the regional health services, so we’ll be able to see more clearly where the numbers are growing, but it is safe to say that the cases are now widespread right around the region and we have a situation of generalised transmission based on the latest data.
At the moment the PCR testers are returning a rate of around 13% positives in their tests, which is well above the level of 4-5% considered to represent a level of “generalised transmission amongst the population” by the WHO.
2 further deaths
There were two further deaths reported in this set of figures (which were published on Sunday but relate to Saturday); a 77 year old male from Jumilla and a 66 year old female from Murcia City, bringing the total fatalities to 175 and 15 this month.
Hospitalisations
2 people were discharged form hospital on Saturday, with 346 remaining in hospital with serious cases, 61 of them in intensive care.
This accounts for more than half of the 115 total intensive care beds available in the Murcia Region.
5,716 patients remain in home isolation with mild symptoms.
During the last 24 hours, 221 people were removed from the active cases list and added to the cured list, bringing this total up to 5,415.
