ARCHIVED - Murcia in favour of third Covid vaccine
The health minister has called for a booster jab for vulnerable people as well as health workers in the Region of Murcia
The regional Health Minister, Juan Jose Pedreño, announced on Wednesday September 15 that Murcia intends to put its support behind a third coronavirus vaccination for a range of populations when the National Commission meets to discuss the subject today. Mr Pedreño is in favour of offering a booster jab not only to elderly people living in nursing homes but also to people considered high risk due to their pathologies, as well as health and social care staff.
Speaking at the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System, the minister also called on the different autonomous communities to reach a common consensus regarding using the Covid passport to access hospitality venues.
Earlier this week, Galicia introduced a measure whereby a Covid certificate will be necessary to enter nightlife venues, and Mr Pedreño is of the opinion that it could prove to be a positive measure nationally once a legal framework is adopted by all regions. What shouldn’t happen, he warned the Ministry, is that different communities adopt different regulations.
The Spanish Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, has steadfastly refused to introduce a national measure requiring Covid passports for entry into bars and restaurants, and has insisted that autonomous communities wanting to introduce the measure must go to court for permission to do so.
Following the news that 84.9% of the people in Murcia over the age of 12 are now fully vaccinated, Mr Pedreño called on the remaining 140,000 individuals to arrange their immunisations as soon as possible. The Minister reiterated that there are plenty of doses available and that people in the Region can go to any vaccination centre without a prior appointment to receive the jab.
