ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid update October 10: all restrictions lifted due to declining infections
The cumulative incidence rate and hospitalisations continue to decrease in the Region of Murcia
As all of Spain approaches a level of ‘new normal’ following the fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the regional government has shelved some of the toughest Covid restrictions this week. With the cumulative incidence rate, hospital admissions and infections continuing to dwindle in the Region of Murcia, nightlife can resume pre-pandemic activities and dance floors are once again open for business.
Reduced restrictions
From Wednesday October 13, customers can once again order drinks and sit at the bar while night clubs can reopen their dance floors once customers are wearing masks. The only aspect which hasn’t changed for the hospitality industry is that the indoor capacity remains at 75%.
In addition, people attending larger events don’t need to remain seated, once they are wearing their masks.
At the same time, the regional health authorities in Murcia are following in the footsteps of several other autonomous communities by working on implementing a Covid passport for accessing nightlife venues. Minister Juan Jose Pedreno stressed that Murcia has requested a legal framework from the central government on several occasions and now the Region intends to appeal to the Superior Court of Justice (TSJ) to legally enforce the measure.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day incidence has dropped to 46.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down from 50 points before the weekend. In addition, the positivity rate has fallen to between 1% and 2%.
New infections
Thirteen new Covid infections were reported in the Region on Sunday October 10. Of these cases, three correspond to the municipality of Cartagena, 2 to Murcia, 2 to La Union, 1 to Alcantarilla, Lorca, Molina de Segura, Totana, San Pedro del Pinatar and Mazarron.
These figures mean that the number of active cases in Murcia now stands at 557 people, with a total of 141,201 infections since the beginning of the pandemic.
Hospitalisations and Fatalities
Hospital admissions continue their steady decrease, with 39 patients currently admitted, of which 12 are being treated in the ICU. Those hospitalised are aged between 19 and 90, and 80% of them are unvaccinated.
On the most positive note on Sunday, no new Covid-related deaths were reported. The total death toll stands at 1,742.
Vaccination data
A total of 2,209,500 doses of the coronavirus vaccination have been administered in the Region of Murcia. To date, 1,146,948 have received two doses of the jab, representing 75.9% of the population, while 78.3% have by now received at least one vaccine.
