ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid update July 21: New infections still on the rise
The fifth wave of the new pandemic has reached a new peak in the Region of Murcia with 461 new cases

The evolution of the coronavirus pandemic continues its onslaught in the Region of Murcia as the Ministry of Health has reported 461 new cases on Tuesday, July 20, the highest number seen in this area since the beginning of February. This is an increase of 67 infections compared with the previous day.
Of the 461 new cases, 132 correspond to Murcia, 50 to the municipality of Cartagena, 32 to Molina de Segura, 23 to Lorca and 14 to Yecla, with the remaining numbers distributed throughout the remaining municipalities.
As a consequence, hospital pressure continues to rise, with an additional 4 people admitted on Tuesday, bringing the total number up to 67. Of these, ten patients are currently in the ICU.
On a very positive note, no new Covid-related deaths were recorded in the Region of Murcia yesterday, which means the total death toll remains at 1,610. The number of active cases, meanwhile, has increased by 247, meaning that 3,371 people are now infected.
The increases occurred on a day when the Department of Health performed 4,852 PCR and antigen tests, of which 9.48 per cent were positive; thus, the positivity rate has now increased by 1.4 points in the last 24 hours.
Most crucially, the cumulative incidence rate in Murcia over the last 14 days has increased to 331.1, but it still remains the one of the autonomous communities with the lowest over figure, second only to Castilla La Mancha. With Spain’s overall 14-day incidence rate currently at 622 cases per 100,000, Murcia is still sitting at almost half the national average.
