Miguel de Tena, Cante de las Minas 2012
4th Gala night, Cante de las Minas 2012.
The last artist on the 4th night of Cante de las Minas 2012 was Miguel de Tena.
Miguel de Tena was born in 1976, and began his journey into flamenco at the age of fourteen.
Whilst carrying out Military service in Melilla, he often went to listen to flamenco, discovering artists such as Antonio Mairena, Menese, Fosforito, Camarón etc, and once out of the Military, he began to initiate contacts with various peñas, including that of Don Benito, who supported him in his quest to learn more about flamenco, beginning serious studies with guitarist Romero de Badajoz.
In spite of his youth, he has achieved a high standing in the world of flamenco enthusiasts, achieving 25 important prizes and accolades, as well as performing alongside some of the most important figures in modern flamenco.
In 1999 he won the Melón de Oro in Lo Ferro (Murcia), in 2002 the Sol de Oro in Lorca (Murcia). In 2003 he won first `prize for Granainas at the Cante de las Minas de La Unión, and in 2004 was a finalist in the category for Mineras and winner of the Tarantas class. In 2004 he also won the first prize in the Jóvenes Flamencos en Calasparra (Murcia) for his rendition of cantes mineros.
In 2006 he finally achieved the Lámpara Minera for his rendition of the minera at La Unión and since then has performed in a wide range of venues and entered into collaborations with a number of different performers and guitarists..
He is a serious singer, with a varied repertoire, and a powerful, yet clear voice, and during this performance delivered a number of tarantas, tangos extremeños , granaínas, mineras and fandangos, accompanied throughout by Antonio Muñoz on guitar.
