ARCHIVED - May 29 free guided tour of the Stone Age site of Cabezo del Plomo in Mazarron
The remains of a 5,000-year-old settlement in the hills near Mazarrón
The tourist office of Mazarrón is offering a free guided visit during the morning of Sunday May 29 at the site of Cabezo del Plomo in the Sierra de las Moreras, where late Stone Age / early Copper Age man settled some 5,000 years ago.
Located on the top of a long, flat-topped hill, the site looks looking out over the flood channel known as Rambla de Las Moreras or Rambla de Susana and is strategically located in an easily defendable position with views of the sea. It dates from the transition between the Stone and Copper Ages and closely resembles one found in Los Millares in Almería, albeit on a much smaller scale. Carbon dating on seashells found within this site has put firm dates for habitation at between 2980 and 3220 BC.
The tour is in Spanish but the sights speak for themselves, and the group is limited to a maximum of 30 people (with a minimum of 3). Bookings are accepted both through the Mazarrón tourist office here and through the Murcia Turística site here.
Duration: approximately 2 hours
Strongly recommended: drinking water, walking shoes, cap, sun cream.
Participants will need their own motor vehicle, and on registration will receive details of the morning starting time and meeting point.
The booking period ends at 13.30 on the day prior to the tour. Each participant must register separately, and participants must show proof of identity (DNI, passport, NIE or TIE). If participants are minors this must be indicated on the booking.
Bookings may not be transferred.
The visit may be cancelled in the event of adverse weather conditions or new circumstances related to the Covid pandemic, and all participants will receive confirmation of the go-ahead on the last working day prior to the event.
Under no circumstances will unregistered participants be allowed to join the group.
