March 30 Tough 11.5-kilometre hike in the mountains of Cabo Tiñoso
The destination for hikers is the charming little covers of Cala Bolete Grande and Cala Bolete Chico
For most residents and visitors in Mazarrón Cabo Tiñoso is the headland protruding from the coastline in La Azohía, the eastern side of which looms on the horizon when looking out west from Puerto de Mazarrón, but this guided hike explores the other side of the promontory, close to El Portús on the way to Cartagena.
The destination is the delightful small coves known as Bolete Chico and Bolete Grande, where one of the more surreal sights on the Murcia coastline is to be found: here, in the middle of nowhere and with barely any evidence of human activity to be seen, is the abandoned shell of an old Guardia Civil office - presumably one of the last popular destinations for officers when it was still in use!
The 11.5-kilometre route is a highly testing one and very inappropriate for walkers prone to vertigo attacks! Walkers will complete a round trip from their cars, which will be parked at a point communicated to participants after registration (online here), and are of course advised to wear proper hiking footwear and clothing appropriate for the hike.
Above all, please do not register for this hike unless you are experienced and in good shape to undertake it, and even if this is the case please bring at least a litre of drinking water!
The adventure begins at 9.00 and is expected to last around 4 hours, but this could vary significantly depending on the degree of difficulty experienced by members of the group.
