Alhama de Murcia council continues its annual control campaign of different mosquito species on Friday, July 24, starting at 05:00 (early morning from Thursday to Friday carrying out a treatment in the green areas of Alhama by spraying the vegetation and open spaces.
Residents are advised not to walk through these spaces while the work is being done and until the liquid has dried, to avoid coming into contact with the products used.
This action is part of the mosquito control program that Alhama Council carries out annually. This year it started on April 3rd and the council is planning to extend it until December 9th. On Tuesday, April 21st, an intense treatment was carried out in one of the critical areas of the municipality; the industrial park. On May 8th, a general fumigation of green spaces in the town was also carried out.
Since April 8th the Council has been regularly treating the 61 scuppers or rainwater grids that are in the streets of the town in a preventive campaign to avoid the reproduction of mosquitoes.
However, a large part of the small accumulations of water in urban areas are in private properties. Therefore, it is important that residents collaborate and eliminate the water points in pots, gutters, buckets, pant saucers, wheels, abandoned toys, ornamental fountains, etc. Without this active participation on behalf of the residents, the treatments applied by the Council have very limited efficacy they say.
