ARCHIVED - Lowest number of active Covid cases since last summer: Alicante Covid update May 6
The Valencia region (Alicante, Valencia and Castellón provinces) continues to report the lowest level of cases in all of Spain
As of Thursday evening, the Valencian regional health authority has administered a total of 1,888,540 doses of the coronavirus vaccine. So far 222,307 doses have been administered in Castellón, 699,415 in Alicante and 966,818 in Valencia.
576,874 people are now fully immunised (two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca or the Janssen single dose vaccine.
The health authority is confident that the vaccination of the first dose for all those aged 70-74 will be completed by next week and from the 17th May, the authorities will begin vaccinating those aged 59-55, so if you are within these lower age brackets, make sure that your details are fully correct at the local health centre.
168 new cases in the Comunidad Valenciana and 61 in the province of Alicante during the last 24 hours.
The latest update published by the regional government on Thursday (May 6) shows a slight increase in the number of daily cases from the Wednesday figures, with 168 new positive diagnosis in the Comunidad Valenciana, of which 61 are in the province of Alicante.
The number of daily fatalities due to Covid, however, has dropped and the latest figure reported in the region was 5, of which 2 were in the province of Alicante, where the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic is 2,801.
Meanwhile, the number of patients in hospital continues to decrease slowly, with 216 people hospitalized with Covid in the region and 55 in the province of Alicante. In addition, the number of active cases in the region is currently 2,850: the lowest figure since last summer.
Despite the high national incidence rate, which is currently 202.2, the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days in the region of Valencia is still the lowest in Spain at 40.99. while the Balearics (59.24) and the Region of Murcia (70.01) have the second and third lowest rates, respectively.
On the other hand, the Basque Country (463.36), Madrid (323.56), Navarra (306.11), Melilla (305.48), Aragón (297.35), La Rioja (269.13) and Cataluña (254.89) are all in the extreme risk zone, with incidence rates of over 250.
On Sunday the state of emergency decreed by the national government of Spain in October, comes to an end, at which point free movement across the borders of the region will be permitted. The regional president has said that new measures will be announced on Monday May 10. As of Friday morning, Murcia remains the only region of Spain not to have made an announcement about whether travel into the Murcia region will be permitted; an announcement is expected on Friday afternoon.
