ARCHIVED - Lorca city centre returns to flexibilised phase 1 confinement for 7 days
The measures are the same as those applied for Jumilla and Archivel which are also in the same position
Lorca has been experiencing a growing number of cases during the last month, the first of which were related to the outbreaks in pubs and bars associated with the same Latino DJ who was the catalyst for the Atalaya outbreaks in the leisure zone of the same name in Murcia City and subsequent outbreak in Totana, the cases spreading into the Latino, and subsequently agricultural sector from this same individual.
Contagion is now generalised in the residential districts of the city centre and the city has reported 448 cases in the last 7 days giving an accumulated incidence rate of 474, and 825 cases in the last fortnight.
The council has been fighting the virus for the last month, and although a number of measures have been taken, including the decision to keep schoolchildren at home and not send them back to school on Monday, the Mayor and regional health centre have decided to tighten restrictions yet further in a bid to close a ring around the virus and prevent it from spreading.
The measure affects the 60,000 people who live in the main capital city and does not affect the outlying pedanías, in which there is a much lower rate of infection.
The same mobility restrictions apply as in Jumilla and Archivel in the Caravaca de la Cruz municipality; movement is restricted and residents must stay within the boundaries of the restrictions, so no movement is permitted in or out of the city other than for essential health or work reasons.
Bars are limited to serving drinks on outdoor terraces and spaces in the open air, to a maximum of 75% of their capacity, and may not use indoor space, and shops must restrict their capacity to 50% of normal levels.
No visits are allowed to residencia care homes within the municipality, day centres for the elderly are closed and health centres are on red status, so are only processing covid-related cases, PCR tests and emergency appointments; all other processes are being handled telematiucally.
The number of cases on covid wards in the Rafael Mendéz hospital has dropped below crisis level, but the intensive care ward is still full and new patients are being diverted to other hospitals.
The restrictions apply for a period of one week.
