ARCHIVED - King and Queen of Spain visit Murcia and Cieza on Tuesday
The royal couple visited an agricultural co-operative and the Murcian Institute of Biosanitary Research
The King and Queen of Spain visited the Murcia Region on Tuesday as part of a nationwide tour to support essential sectors and thank all of those who have been crucial in supplying essential services throughout the Covid crisis.
The tour began in the Canary Islands, and since then Don Felipe and Doña Letizia have stopped off in the Balearic Islands, Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and the Valencian Community.
With the first stop-off being the La Carrichosa de Cieza cooperative, fashion followers were keen to point out that the Queen had selected a suitably “campo-style” look, wearing a 50’s style floral print skirt in which she was first seen two years ago and a white cross- over top from high street chain Zara, paired up with the wedge espadrilles, which she has worn everywhere on her tour around Spain this summer, her hair in a simple ponytail.
After the official informative reception they were shown the inner workings of the co-operative, which packs and transports thousands of tons of pears, table grapes, peaches, apricots and Paraguayas before heading out into the plantations to see the work at first hand.
Only a limited number of families conncected to the plantations were allowed inside the installations for the visit, and there were no large-scale public walkabouts for safety reasons.
After visiting Cieza the tour moved on to Murcia City to visit the Murcian Institute of Biosanitary Research (IMIB) to learn about the advances in scientific studies on covid-19 carried out by medical personnel of the Murcian Health Service and the University of Murcia.
The IMIB is carrying out clinical trials and research projects financed by the Carlos III Institute of Health in the field of virology and therapies which mitigate the health impact of the pandemic.
