January 5 Lorca welcomes The Three Kings with a spectacular parade

Their Majesties Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar will arrive in Lorca on the morning of January 5

The countdown to one of Lorca’s most exciting traditions is on! On Sunday January 5, the city will roll out the red carpet for Their Majesties Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltasar as they make their grand arrival in a spectacular Three Kings Parade.

The celebration kicks off at 11.30am, when the Three Kings will arrive at the Casa de Guevara to visit the Municipal Nativity Scene, accompanied by a choir from the Alfonso X El Sabio School.

From there, they will parade to the Plaza de España, where they’ll meet the mayor and greet the children of Lorca. It’s the perfect opportunity for little ones to share their last-minute wishes before the Kings set off on their magical gift-delivery journey later that night.

The real magic begins at 6pm, as the much-anticipated parade winds its way through Lorca’s streets. Starting from Calle Pérez Casas in the San José neighbourhood, the parade will travel along Calle Nogalte, Cuesta de San Francisco and Avenida Juan Carlos I, among others, before concluding at Plaza de España.

Here, the Kings will leave their floats and proceed on foot to honour the Infant Jesus during the Auto de Reyes Magos ceremony, capped off with a dazzling fireworks display.

“The Government of Lorca has made the necessary efforts to make this one of the best parades that has ever been enjoyed in our city”, said María de las Huertas García Pérez, Lorca’s Councillor for Celebrations.

Eight floats, more than a thousand participants and an array of enchanting performances will bring the streets to life. Highlights include dance groups, superheroes, Disney characters and even giant giraffes and inflatable horses.

The procession will also feature creative costumes crafted by students of the IES Bartolomé Pérez Casas, who designed and made new outfits for fairies and snowflakes, showcasing the talents of Lorca’s younger generation.

This year, the city has taken a thoughtful approach to safety by replacing the tradition of throwing candy with a hand-delivery system, as “it was something that worried us and that many parents had warned us about,” María de las Huertas García explained. “The throwing of candy causes many children to get too close to the floats, with the consequent risk”.

Beyond the parade itself, the Three Kings celebrations will feature lots of other family-friendly activities, including a cookie-decorating workshop on January 4 at Plaza de España. Families can enjoy crafting festive treats together, and children will even have the chance to deliver their letters directly to the royal pages.

The councillor wants to encourage “children and adults to enjoy this programme and a parade that we are preparing with great affection so that the visit of the Three Kings to Lorca will be remembered forever.

“The true protagonists of Christmas are the children, so we wanted everything to revolve around them.”
