Hospitalisations drop for sixth consecutive week: Spain Covid update Feb 6
The number of Covid patients in intensive care in Spain also decreased by 15%

All of the coronavirus indicators have fallen again this week, showing that the health impact of Covid is at its lowest level of the entire pandemic, a milestone that was also reached in September of last year, after the seventh wave.
The most promising development is in hospitalisations, which dropped another 12% according the report published on Friday February 3 and ICU admissions, which fell by 15%.
Coronavirus infections
The Ministry of Health registered an additional 9,053 cases of coronavirus on Friday.
Of the total infections, 5,396 were diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
This brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 13,740,531.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate has dropped by another 17 points, falling to 50.76 cases per 100,000 inhabitants compared to 67.58 last week. In addition, the 7-day figure, standing at 22.46, still remains more than 50% below the two-week rate, an excellent indication that the health situation remains relatively stable.
When it comes to autonomous communities, Aragon has this week taken the top spot from Andalucia (24.48 cases) with an impressively low 15.94 cases per 100,000.
The autonomous city of Melilla is currently faring the worst, with 124.34 infections per 100,000 people while the Valencian Community is just a tad above the national average, with 55.92 cases.
The highest incidence continues to be recorded in people over the age of 80, with a rate of 97.57 cases this week, followed by those aged between 70 and 79 (46.35) and between 60 and 69 (30.14).
Fatalities and hospitalisations
A further 76 Covid-related fatalities have been reported in the last 7 days, bringing the total number of deaths in Spain up to 118,712.
There are currently 2,056 patients admitted to hospitals across Spain with Covid, compared to 2,341 last Friday. At the moment, 150 people are being treated for more serious conditions in the ICU, which is a considerable reduction of 27.
These figures mean that 1.7% of all hospital beds are occupied by people with a positive diagnosis.
Vaccination data
As of February 6, 92.6% of the population over 12 (39,206,848 people) are double jabbed. In addition, 39,283,384 people over the age of 12, or 92.8% of the population, have received at least one dose.
