ARCHIVED - Four active outbreaks in the Region of Murcia
Two new outbreaks are in Cartagena and Murcia; one from an incoming flight
On Monday following a meeting of the regional Covid Monitoring Committee, the regional Minister of Health Manuel Villegas, reported that there are now four active Covid outbreaks in the Region.
The largest continues to be the outbreak relating to the flight from Bolivia on June 3rd, which now has 38 active cases (this came into Barajas airport in Madfrid). The second is in Torre Pacheco relating to a second flight from Bolivia on June 10th (also through Barajas) and has 3 cases, the third outbreak is in the Cartagena municipality and comprises three people from the same family and a fourth is in the city of Murcia and also has three cases, two of them from the same family.
The Epidemiology Service of the Ministry of Health has also taken the decision to quarantine twenty further people in relation to the new outbreaks and in total there are almost 300 people quarantined in relation to the main Bolivian outbreak, although not all of them are in Murcia.
At the moment the regional government is reluctant to confirm details of the two new foci other than saying that both are imported; one of the new cases “arrived by plane” and the second “via a transporter” who came from outside the Region.
Both of the new outbreaks he said "are small", are in family settings and are believed to be controlled.
The latest figures released on Sunday by the Murcian regional health service are as follows:
77 active cases of which 63 people are in home isolation with mild symptoms, 14 hospitalised and 1 in intensive care.
3,377 cases since the beginning of the pandemic with 151 deaths.
1,482 of those who tested positive via swab test are now recovered.
66,336 swab tests and 61,702 rapid tests carried out in the region.
