ARCHIVED - Five long weekends in the Murcia bank holidays calendar for 2021
In total, there are fourteen set holidays in the Region of Murcia
In 2021 there will be five “puentes” or weekends preceded or followed by a bank holiday, giving workers the chance to enjoy a long weekend.
In addition to the fixed holidays agreed by the regional government, each local council can specify two days of local holiday for their own municipality. Once the councils have formally submitted their request to the regional government then the final holidays calendar for 2021 will be formalised.
The following dates have been given the green light during a normal meeting of the regional cabinet: January 6th, Epiphany; March 19th, San José; April 1st, Maundy Thursday; and June 9th, Murcia Region Day.
The main change this year is that the Day of the Assumption of the Virgin, on August 15th, falls on a Sunday, but rather than moving the holiday to the following Monday as is normally the case, the holiday will be taken instead of the 9th June, the date on which the Region of Murcia officially became a region in its own right.
So the programme for regional holidays in 2021 is as follows:
• Friday, January 1st, New Year
• Wednesday, January 6th, Epiphany
• Friday March 19th, San José
• Thursday, April 1st, Holy Thursday
• Friday April 2nd, Good Friday
• Saturday, May 1st, Labor Day
• Wednesday, June 9th, Day of the Region of Murcia
• Tuesday October 12th, National Holiday of Spain
• Monday, November 1st, All Saints
• Monday, December 6th, Day of the Spanish Constitution
• Wednesday December 8th, Day of the Immaculate Conception
• Saturday, December 25th, Christmas Day
