ARCHIVED - February 13 to 22 Carlantum conferences on the history of Mazarron
Rural history, the Wars of Spanish Succession and the old rail line between Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón are among the topics at the Unversidad Popular de Mazarrón
The 2023 Carlantum event in Mazarrón consists of a series of six conferences organized by the Universidad Popular de Mazarrón (see map) between February 13 and 24, some of which will require a good knowledge of Spanish to follow while others rely to a certain extent on photographic and other visual exhibits.
Each of the events included in the program (listed below) begins at 21.00 in the Universidad Popular building at Avenida Constitución nº 65.
Monday February 13: Tomás García Martínez explains the old agricultural calendar and important traditional dates in the countryside in the Region of Murcia.
Tuesday February 14: Juan Francisco Martínez López explains the role of Mazarrón out of the front line in the Wars of Spanish Succession between 1701 and 1714.
Thursday February 16: Rogelio Morales addresses the topic of “Farm labourers, shepherds and other rural professions”.
Friday February 17: Jerónimo García Jorquera discusses the role of Mazarrón in the history of food production.
Monday February 20: Magdalena Campillo Méndez and Alba Guerrero García present the Photography project of the municipal Archive.
Wednesday February 22: Miguel Morales Mateo presents his exhibition of the mining trains in Mazarrón, focussing on the old line which used to run between Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón.
