ARCHIVED - False coronavirus alarm in Murcia
A child who travelled to China a month ago was cleared by tests at the Arrixaca hospital on Thursday
The Murcia health service’s coronavirus protocol was close to being fully activated on Thursday at the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital in El Palmar, just south of the regional capital, when a boy was hurriedly transferred there from his local medical centre after being taken by his parents on account of his presenting flu-like symptoms after travelling to China a month ago with his family.
Sources quoted in regional newspaper La Opinión report that during the journey to the hospital all of the established precautions were implemented and on arrival tests were carried out immediately, although these tests soon proved to be negative and the entire family was discharged during the evening. As a result, the emergency protocol was not fully activated, and the Health department of the Murcia government reiterates that at present no cases in the Region have matched the criteria established by the World Health Organization which provide any cause for concern.
Elsewhere in Spain only two cases have definitely been concerned, one in Mallorca and one in La Gomera (in the Canaries), while other suspected infections in the Balearics have been ruled out.
