Earthquake off the coast of Benidorm

It is the 64th earthquake in Alicante so far this year

The coast of Alicante was the site of an earthquake this Tuesday August 15, off the coast between Benidorm and L'Alfàs del Pi, measuring 1.7 degrees on the Richter scale, as reported by Spain’s National Geographic Institute.

The small tremor was recorded at 9.33 on Tuesday morning and is the 68th seismic movement registered in the province of Alicante so far this year. That’s a full 24 more earthquakes than by this time last year.

This earthquake is the first one this year on the coast off the Marina Baixa area of Alicante. In 2022 only one was recorded, on August 6 off the coast of La Vila Joiosa with a magnitude of 1.5.

There was another slightly larger tremor a few hours earlier in Murcia’s Molina de Segura yesterday, measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale.
