ARCHIVED - Cartagena council renewing the tarmac on Gran Vía of La Manga del Mar Menor
This new project is part of the ‘La Manga 365’ initiative to improve La Manga del Mar Menor in the Murcia region and encourage tourists all year round
The local council in Cartagena has set in motion a plan to repair the tarmac on two parts of the Gran Vía in La Manga del Mar Menor, specifically between kilometres one and two: from the old “Sea horse” roundabout until the new Sirenas building.
The project follows the approval of the 370,000-euro-plan to expand the Plaza Bohemia (kilometre three) and is part of the ‘La Manga 365’ initiative to turn La Manga into an attractive destination “365 days of the year”.
The two parts of the Gran Vía which are being renovated measure 108 and 475 metres long, respectively, and seven metres wide: 4,081 square metres in total.
In addition to completely renewing the tarmac on the two entrance lanes, a micro-agglomerate asphalt is also going to be placed to repair the potholes and cracks along the road.
The company in charge of carrying out these roadworks is Pavasal, who are charging nearly 35,000 euros. The renovations will take around two weeks to complete and are already in the final stretch; hopefully the situation experienced last year when holidaymakers arrived en-masse in the middle of late re-surfacing work causing significant tailbacks, can be avoided..
