ARCHIVED - Friday Covid data Spain; new cases in Spain rise for the fifth consecutive day
Fourteen of the seventeen autonomous regions of Spain have reported new cases within the last 24 hours
The Spanish Ministry of Health held two separate press conferences on Friday to first of all give the revised death total for the number of fatalities officially recorded in Spain during the Covid-19 crisis, followed by a second to present the normal daily data gathered by the 17 regional health authorities.
Information from the first conference is below, although the principal data reported is that the number of fatalities reported to date has been adjusted by 1177 fatalities, bringing the current total of fatalities this Friday to 28,313, which is now the official number of deaths so far from the virus.
In the second press conference the normal daily totals were presented, showing that 154 new cases have been diagnosed across Spain within the last 24 hours, bringing the total to date up to 245,575.
For the first time in 12 days, the Ministry of Health reported the adjusted deaths total, which was two more than the adjusted figure presented in the morning at 28,315. The number of deaths during the last seven days was 40.
On Friday the WHO warned that the worldwide pandemic is accelerating; Thursday's 150,000 new cases were the highest yet reported on one day. Globally 453,834 have died, with 8.53 million cases.
“The world is in a new and dangerous phase,” Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "The virus is still spreading fast, it is still deadly, and most people are still susceptible."
