Emergency services were called to an accident on Saturday morning, August 21 following reports that a cyclist had fallen off a cliff on the way up to the Sierra Espuña, in the municipality of Alhama de Murcia.

According to the official sources, the fall occurred on the road that goes from Fuente del Hilo to Sierra Espuña, in the El Estrecho area at around 10:30am.

The cyclist reportedly fell from a height of about 20 metres and was unable to move when emergency services attended the scene. The victim was stabilised on site before being airlifted by helicopter to the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital.
