ARCHIVED - Almost all over-70s in Murcia have received their first Covid vaccine jab
Those who have not been given an appointment should contact the health service as soon as possible
Now that the coronavirus immunization campaign in Spain is at last proceeding more or less at the speed originally anticipated the regional health authorities in Murcia are confident that the first vaccine doses have been administered to practically all people aged 70 or over, and are urging anyone aged between 70 and 79 who has not yet been notified of their vaccination appointment to contact them on the free number 900 121212.
The SMS health service data show that 85 per cent of this age group have already received their jab, while the sharp drop in case numbers, hospital admissions and fatalities among the over-80s, who were prioritized first, amply justifies the need to receive inoculation.
In Spain as a whole over 5 million people have now received their full quota of vaccine doses, equating to 10.7 per cent of the population, while in Murcia the figure stands at 125,689 (or 8.3 per cent). At the same time the number of people to have received at least partial protection has risen to 12.16 million in the country as a whole – just over a quarter of the population – while in the Region of Murcia the figure stands at 320,106 (22.3 per cent).
However, there is still frustration at the refusal of the Ministry of Health to allow under-60s who have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to be given their second jab, leaving at least 43,000 people in the Region of Murcia uncertain as to how their immunization procedure will continue.
