ARCHIVED - Active cases drop despite slight rise in new cases: Alicante Covid update May 13
Latest update reports 131 new cases in the region of Valencia and 41 in the province of Alicante
The latest update published by the regional government on Thursday (May 13) details 131 new coronavirus cases in the Comunidad Valenciana and 41 in the province of Alicante.
This represents a slight rise in the number of new cases in the Alicante province, but the 7-day average number of daily cases in the region has decreased to 117.71 overall.
This is the second consecutive day on which the number of new cases in the region has exceeded 100, the 131 new cases reported for Thursday being the highest figure for the week.
The number of people the region’s hospitals has decreased by eight and is now 160, while the figure in the province of Alicante is 45. There are eight people currently in intensive care in the province and 39 in total in the region. The level of hospitalisations remains very low; there has been a 94 per cent drop in the level of hospitalisations from the peak of the pandemic.
The number of covid-related deaths reported in the region on Thursday was six, of which four were in the province of Alicante.
In the region of Valencia, the number of active cases is decreasing and is currently 1,689, compared to the figure of 3,870 reported at the end of April.
The cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days is also dropping and is now 32.09 in the region of Valencia, while the national rate is 166.32.
The Spanish regions with highest incidence rates are the Basque Country (333.3), Madrid (267.42) and Aragón (259.44) and, on the other hand, the regions with lowest rates are Valencia, the Balearics (51.81) and the Region of Murcia (63.13).
The Valencian regional health authorities have administered a total of 2,151,712 coronavirus vaccines to date; 252,538 in Castellón province, 791,955 in Alicante province and 1,107,219 in Valencia province. 685,949 people are now fully vaccinated having received either two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca or a single dose of the monodose Janssen vaccine.
