This year 14 local establishments in the Alhama de Murcia municipality are participating in the annual tapas and cocktails route, 11 offering tapas, one cocktails and two desserts, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between the 8th and 17th November.
This annual event offers both those living in, and visiting the municipality, the opportunity to sample local tapas as well as find new establishments, the best of which are often hidden away in back streets and are generally unknown to those living outside of their immediate catchment area.
This year participants can enjoy a portion of the selected tapa on offer in the bar, along with a drink, or a cocktail on its own, for just 3 euros.

The route takes the standard format: A route map can be collected from participating hostelries, or the tourist information office, showing the participating establishments and the tapa they offer. Armed with the map, “taperos” select the tapa they would like to try, then set off and find the establishment, order the tapa and ask for the route card to be stamped as proof of purchase. There is no set schedule, taperos can visit as few or as many establishments as they want to, and the route can be revisited at any time during the promotion.
The participants have been divided into two distinct zones, making it easier for "taperos" to visit all of the bars in each area.
As part of the visit the “taperos” are also asked to rate the tapa consumed on a scale of one to five on their route-card; one being the lowest evaluation and five the highest.
As is normal, those completing their route-card can enter into a prize draw, which this year includes an i-phone X as first prize, with lots of ham, cheese and wine as the second and third prizes.
Completed route-cards can be deposited in voting urns in both the tourist information office and the Centro de Formación y Empleo and must be deposited by the 18th November.
The prize draw will take place on the 21st November at 12.00 in the town hall.
If you do enter, make sure that your phone is switched on 12 mid-day when the draw is made as the winners are notified by a phone call and if the phone is not answered, then the prize is re-drawn.
This year a free tourist train will also be running in-between the bars, for those who would like to visit a number of establishments without the inconvenience of driving and parking. This is running on both Saturdays which are included within the route between 1pm and 12 midnight, and on Sundays from 1pm to 6pm, stopping off at all of the participating establishments as well as the railway station, on a half hour circuit.
Starting in the centre of the town, stopping at calle General Vidal Abarca, the railway station, venta Don Jamón, Animunis Park and calle Fuente del Ral,on the 9th and 16th November between 13:00 and 23:00 (stopping between 17:00 and 19:00), and on the 10th and 17th November between 13:00 and 18:00.
In addition, a number of fun activities for children are on offer in the open-air space of the auditorio municipal in the Parque Cubana, opposite the town hall and tourist office where there is a paid Guardería, monitor service run by Animunis Park.
