Firefighters and Civil Protection personnel from Cartagena had to rescue an 86-year-old man this Sunday after he fell down an embankment in a ravine in Isla Plana while walking in the area.

Emergency Services were alerted to the incident at around 11.20am on Sunday October 16 by a call from a private citizen. The Fire Brigade was quickly on the scene, in the vicinity of the former El Mirador restaurant, just below the Los Madriles campsite.

The victim was at the bottom of an embankment of the Rambla Honda, about three metres deep. After firefighters went down and checked that he was conscious, responded well to questions and that the scratches he had incurred were no longer bleeding, they hoisted him up on a rescue board to bring him to a more accessible place for medical staff to look after him.

Just last week, Cartagena firefighters were called out to rescue an elderly woman who had fallen into a septic tank in her home.
