ARCHIVED - 800 kilos of marine waste removed from the bay of Mazarrón
Among the rubbish salvaged at the weekend were the remains of a sunken boat
The Buceo Hispania dive centre in Puerto de Mazarrón held its latest marine waste clearing event at the weekend, with participants removing a total of 800 kilos of rubbish from the sea bed including the remains of a sunken boat, numerous plastic bottles and tin cans and even rubbish containers of the kind which are usually found on the streets of Puerto de Mazarrón.
The dive centre has been holding events of this kind for 25 years, and Mayor Gaspar Miras, praising their efforts, expressed the hope that if one day the clean-ups stop it will be because there is no more rubbish to collect.
Meanwhile, the clean-up campaign continues next weekend within the 25th “Limpieza de Fondos Marinos” program with another event held by the Bachisub dive centre.
