The regional government is reminding members of the public that anyone hoping to enjoy the snow in the mountains of Sierra Espuña on Monday should remember that they will find it very difficult to enter the regional park by car.
Due to the amount of snow which has fallen road access has been suspended from Alhama de Murcia via the “trasvase” water supply canal and via Los Quemados, and form Totana via Los Alquerías. At the same time on the northern side of the mountains the road between Aledo and Zarzadilla de Totana has also been closed to traffic, and so a day out in the snow in Sierra Espuña will have to wait until the roads have been cleared!
However, there will be ample time for that: as of Monday lunchtime it is reported that as much as half a metre of snow had fallen at the weather station at the peak of Sierra Espuña, 1,579 metres above sea level, and there is also plenty in the north-west of the Region of Murcia: 40 centimetres in the villages of Campo de San Juan and Inazares, both in the municipality of Moratalla, for example!
