Click HereTwo small boats carrying 43 unauthorized migrants were intercepted off the coast of the Region of Murcia on Thursday as they attempted to make the crossing from northern Africa into EU territory.
The first boat arrived at the beach of Cabo Cope just outside Águilas in the south-west of the Region at approximately 7.00 in the morning, with 23 Algerian men on board, and after being apprehended by the Guardia Civil they were taken to the area set aside for newly arrived migrants on the jetty of Escombreras.
They were followed at approximately 8.30 by another 20 Algerians, including a woman and two infants, at Cala Dorada, not far from Cabo de Palos in the municipality of Cartagena.
Once in Escombreras the new arrivals were attended to by the Cruz Roja according to coronavirus protocols before being detained and interned. All 43 are reported to have been in good health.
