ARCHIVED - 18th and 19th January 2020 fiestas of San Antón in La Copa, Bullas
La Copa is in the north-west of the Murcia Region
San Anton is the protector of animals, which is why blessings of the animals are held at any churches with San Anton as their patron around the region this coming Sunday. There is also a tradition of roasting meats and consuming them during these fiestas, the little settlement of La Copa in Bullas hosting one of the biggest BBq’s in the region.
Saturday 18th January
4.30pm. Pasacalles. The Banda de Musica walks around the streets, to the accompaniment of Cohetes.
8pm. 500 kilos of wood is lit to bbq the bestcuts of meat from 8 pigs, with plenty of meat for all residents.
Sunday 19th January
11am Solemn mass with the accompaniment of the parish choir, after which the little bread rolls of san Anton will be given out, having been blessed during the ceremony.
12 Midday. Auction of items donated by the neighbours and locals to pay for the fiestas: give generously!
4pm Firecrackers and sweets for the children
4.15pm Gran baile de Animas. Traditional dancing and music . This is a baile de pujas, in which money is collected for the fiestas. In these dances, one person will pay some money to make somebody else go up and dance. They´re very traditional and great fun to watch, but don´t get too near the front or you might be the next one out there having to dance!
6.30pm. Solemn procession of the image of San Antonio Abad.
The image will parade to the end of Calle Carril where a blessing of the animals will take place, followed by a big firework display in honour of the saint. The saint then continues in procession back to the church
