ARCHIVED - 1 in 5 Murcianos have had coronavirus: Murcia Covid update January 25
The sixth wave could finally be stabilising in the Region of Murcia as the number of active cases continues to drop
The total number of positive Covid diagnosis in the Region since March 2020 has reached 300,660, around a fifth of the regional population, meaning that one in five Murcia residents have had Covid at some point during the pandemic.
Despite the low number of daily cases reported in Monday’s update (1,621), this Tuesday’s update, January 25, reports over 5,000 new cases once again. However, other indicators, such as active cases and incidence rates, are showing a downward trend. In all, the sixth wave does appear to be stabilising in the Region of Murcia after months of steady increases.
New cases
The latest Covid update published on January 25 reports 5,193 cases in the past day, which shows a decrease of over 2,000 when compared to this time last week, when 7,291 cases were registered.
Active cases
Active cases continue to inch downwards and have decreased slightly to 36,653. The majority of these cases (36,025) have not required hospitalisation and the infected are in self-isolation at home.
Hospitalisations
Hospital admissions have risen from 619 to 628 in the past 24 hours while the number of Covid patients in ICUs has increased by four: from 81 to 85.
Recoveries
A total of 6,053 patients were given the all-clear from the virus since the previous update, taking the total up to 262,061 recoveries since the start of the pandemic.
Fatalities
Seven further fatalities were reported in the latest update; two of the deceased were in their early 50s, the others were aged between 64 and 92. The total number of Covid-related deaths in Murcia now stands at 1,946.
Incidence rates
Tuesday January 25 marks the second consecutive day of decreases in both the 14-day and 7-day cumulative incidence rates. According to Murcia Salud, the rate in the past two weeks has decreased to 5,100.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the 7-day rate has dropped to 2,174.9.
However, the 14-day incidence rate is still well above the national average in Spain, which was 3,381 in the latest update on January 24, when Murcia had the third highest rate in the country.
