ARCHIVED - Water quality Mar Menor; 2 beaches not suitable for bathing
Water quality is considered to be perfectly safe on the remainder
Results of the latest water quality measurements show that the water in the Mar Menor is considered technically suitable for bathing on all beaches except those of Estrella de Mar and Los Urrutias.
In most places the water is clear and warm, with safety nets laid to prevent jellyfish in swimming areas, although as has been well documented, some areas with shallower fringes are experiencing excessive algal growth.
The regional media has reported today that the Spanish residents of the region are opting for the Mediterranean beaches on the coast rather than those around the Mar Menor, but as stated above, many of these are not experiencing the same problems as areas such as Los Urrutias.
Anyone staying on la Manga del Mar Menor has only to walk across the road to access the Mediterranean beaches and there is also a bus service from Los Belones to the Calblanque beaches and another in San Pedro del Pinatar running to the Mediterranean coastal beaches there.
