ARCHIVED - Another record number of new cases in Murcia Region; 1807 in the last 24 hours
The totals of active cases and those at home with mild cases now exceed 10,000
Hospital admissions continue to rise as the regional health authority once again reiterates the need for respecting the restrictions imposed to stop the virus spreading.
The third wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the Murcia region appears to be accelerating at a speed which has taken the regional health authorities by surprise, with records being broken day after day at the moment.
Last week the highest number of cases for a single week since the pandemic began was reported, and the figures for Monday, published on Tuesday, reflect the gravity of the situation, breaking another daily record for the fourth time in a week, with 1807 cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours, the highest figure yet recorded, yet again.
Of the 1,807 new cases, 590, nearly a third of the total, correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 262 to Cartagena, 114 to Yecla, 85 to Molina de Segura, 72 to Lorca, 52 to Torre Pacheco, 44 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 41 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 37 to Fortuna, 37 to Jumilla, 35 to Mula, 35 to San Javier, 31 to Las Torres de Cotillas, 29 to Moratalla, 28 to Alcantarilla, 25 to La Unión, 23 to Cieza, 21 to Mazarrón, 19 to Águilas, 19 to Santomera, 18 to Totana, 17 to Abanilla, 16 to Alguazas, 14 to Ceutí, 13 to Bullas, 12 to Cehegín, 11 to Archena, 10 to Los Alcázares, 10 to Alhama de Murcia, 10 to Calasparra, 9 to Abarán, 9 to Beniel, 9 to Fuente Álamo, 9 to Lorquí, 6 to Puerto Lumbreras, and the remainder allocated in quantities of less than 5 around the region.
Fatalities:
Three fatalities were reported for the latest 24 hour period; two men and one woman aged 86, 80 and 63 years old, from Santomera, Bullas and Murcia, bringing the total number of deaths since the health crisis began to 790.

Hospitalisations: A further 52 patients were admitted to the hospital network with more severe symptoms of coronavirus during the last 24 hour period, bringing the total to 459 and with 88 in intensive care units. This leaves 10,034 patients in home isolation with mild symptoms.
On Monday, 8,217 PCR and antigen tests were carried out, but the level of positives amongst them was 21.9%, the highest figure yet recorded in the region, confirming that the spread of the virus is increasing once again.
AI Rate: All of this has pushed up the accumulated incidence rate per 100,000 of population, which is now 586 cases per 100,000 over 7 days and 817 over 14 days: the target by which the contagions are considered to be under control is 25 for 7 days and 60 for 14 days.
Over 14 days, Fortuna has the highest rate with 2383 cases per 100,000, followed by Abanilla with 2072, Moratalla with 1926, Jumilla 1605 Villanueva 1374, Mula 1338 and so on down the list above, illustrating just how serious the situation is.
Over 7 days, Moratalla has 1760 cases per 100,000, followed by Fortuna with 1503, Abanilla 1109, Jumilla 1058,Yecla 1057 and so on, as per the list above, again, huge figures which are way, way above levels considered to be acceptable.
During the press conference, spokesman for Health, Jaime Pérez, reiterated that the greatest increase in positives is being recorded in the 17 - 34 age group. "78% of infections occurred in leisure and family environments," he said, emphasising that this combination of leisure environment contagion which is then being taken home to the family is the biggest source for the spread of the virus, the reason why bars and restaurants in areas with higher incidences have yet again beeen closed down. He once again called for "a collective effort from all of society and to reduce interaction as much as possible."
